A Passionate Purpose with Bijouxbead

Hey Toronto and the GTA!  Even though Valentines day is over, there’s still time to make hearts pound and blood sing, (and maybe make up for the gas station roses or drugstore chocolates you may have purchased in a panic),  all in the name of a good cause.

Made You Look Studio and Gallery is hosting “Passion”:  a dazzling exhibition of jewellery from Darlene Martin of  Bijouxbead.  Each of her pieces are one of a kind and  handcrafted using exceptional stones chosen specifically for this collection.

Now…what could be more fabulous than gorgeous, handcrafted jewellery, with names like “Ardor” and “Lust” and “Fervor”?  How about the fact that Bijouxbead is donating a portion of the proceeds from each sale from the Passion collection to Canadian Blood Services.  You get to wear an extraordinary piece of jewellery, and feel good about the fact that your purchase may just make a difference in some body’s life.

Bijouxbead’s Passion exhibit is showing from now until Saturday February 28th, at Made You Look Studio and Gallery, 1338 Queen Street West, Toronto Ontario.

Vintage: Tumbleweed Cottage

Oh, how do I love thee, Tumbleweed Cottage?  Maybe it’s the gorgeous selection of souvenir scarves Liz manages to find.  Maybe it’s all the fun old toys, and nifty knicknacks strewn throughout her shop.  Liz has a real eye for novelty, and she adds neat new treasure on a regular basis.    Go check out her store…you’re sure to find something cool just for you.

My particular favourite?  This awesome 60s lucite flower arrangement.  So fun!

Gallery: I’m Dreaming of the Tropics

  1. Tropical Dream, Watercolour and Papercut, by Diana Evens:  This piece is created using an ink sketch on 140lb watercolor paper. I then watercolor the piece and finally hand cut all the fine details.
  2. The Mermaid Who Loves Shoes Bracelette, by Wild Woman Jewelery:  The variety of beads and mixture of blues, browns, turquoise, pinks and shimmery waves of color on the shells capture my vision of a beautiful mermaid’s tail.
  3. Fabulous Flamingo Cameo Broach, by Redd Hynes:   This is a big beauty of a brooch. This pin will definitely make a statement, an awesome statement!  The cameo itself is 30mmX40mm and is on a antiqued silver plated brooch setting.
  4. Green Mopey Starfish Plushie, by Mopey Can’t Swim:   What is a Mopey, you ask? A Mopey is a type a starfish! They are fuzzy, cute, and affectionate, but unfortunately they cannot swim.
  5. To the Sea, To the Sea Pendant, by String Me Along:    I have made a simply lovely pendant by pairing a handpatined sea-horse with a large piece of genuine New Brunswick sea glass.
  6. Smells Like a Day at the Beach Bath Salts, by Mythical Matters:   Take a mini-vacation with this sea salt soak, and come back feeling like you’ve been gone for two weeks!
