What’s up with Beth & IndieNorth?

update

Hey folks, Beth here with another update post!  I have had an incredibly busy busy busy past couple of months, and I feel like I’ve been soooo out of touch with all my online friends…so here’s a brief rundown on what I’ve been up to!

Last year around this time the idea for IndieNorth began percolating around in my head.  I began wondering how I could bring more exposure to all the fantabulous Canadian Indie Businesses I kept coming across while working on my own (painfully neglected) etsy site.  The Etsy site stayed empty, (and remains so to this day), and IndieNorth was born. The basic idea behind it was to ramp up exposure for Canadian indie businesses to take us all into this holiday season.

So, lately I’ve been thinking…

I have learned a lot over the past few years about running a business, both online and off.  I have learned (and I’m still learning) a whole lot about time management, prioritizing, and taking care of all the ‘boring stuff’ that goes along with running a business.  When you’re naturally flaky, that boring stuff can be torture.  It can be very easy to procrastinate on.  And yet, that boring stuff is exactly the stuff that is necessary to change an independent business from “Your Little Hobby that brings in a bit of pin money”, to a workable, sustainable business.

I want to help you “Quit Your Day Job”.  (Or, “Create Your Day Job”, if you’re WAHMing, WAHDing or temporarily unemployed).

Enter my newest adventure, set to launch in the New Year:

The Lounge of Commerce – Like the Chamber of Commerce, but with comfier chairs and yummier drinks.

The Lounge of Commerce is a site full of business information for “Artisans and other Flakes”, (of which, I am one).  :)   This is the site that will help you ramp up your business.  This will NOT be a get rich quick thing.  It may not even be a ‘get rich’ thing at all.  But, if you commit to a year of projects and assignments, it may very well get you to that magical “Quit Your Day Job” land sooner than you ever thought possible.

So, stay tuned…I’ll be doing a ‘soft launch’ in the next couple of weeks, and the full shebang in January.

Annnnnd…don’t worry about IndieNorth.  She’s not going anywhere!

Love you folks!

Beth

I’m my own worst enemy and I regularly sabotage myself…tsk tsk!

  11. Beth says:

Gosh I hope people find it helpful Bella! It’s going to be a grand adventure, one way or another!!!

  12. Beth says:

lol…no Tsk, tsk, Shannon…seriously. That has to be one of the biggest and most common road blocks ever! You’re not alone. I’m a terrible, terrible procrastinator. In fact, I keep checking these comments to see if my parents have come on and told everyone about all the sleepless nights and teary mornings I had over leaving homework until the last moment in highschool. :) I’ve figured out a few tricks that work for me, and if they work for me, I’m guessing they’d work for other crafty (flaky) sorts!!! lol

  13. Snugnluv says:

Great idea! You can certainly do it!

  14. Beth says:

It’s going to be a great ride!!!

  15. debbie says:

Hey, I think someone just butted in front of me….can’t wait to be a flake, er rather, show my flakiness…and that’s cool right? Cause just as snowflakes, we are all different and each of us is appreciated on our own but as a “group” of flakes are more noticeable and more effective…..wow, okay that was my insightful thought for the month….
hey, I was here first, back up…BETH!!!!!

  16. Julie says:

Awesome idea Oh Mistress of Flaky Genius! Where do I sign up?

  17. Kim says:
